He was the son of a railway worker and a schoolteacher. In 1941, at the age of 17, he fled Nazi-occupied Switzerland and immigrated to the United States. He started working as a kitchen helper in a restaurant and eventually became a dishwasher. In the early 1950s, he started working as a waiter in a cafeteria and then as a waiter and busboy in a hotel. In 1958, he became the manager of a restaurant in San Diego and then the manager of a buffet restaurant in Las Vegas. In 1969, he opened the first restaurant in the United States that was owned and operated by a Hispanic American, El Pollo Loco. In 1984, he became the chairman and CEO of the company that became known as Wynn Resorts. He served in this position until 1990.; 8vo; 401 pages; MR.
