Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. First edition. Edited and with an introduction ("Amar el mar") by Álvaro Mutis. Octavo. 127pp. Text in Spanish. Bound with preliminary and terminal blanks into buckram and red leather gilt over boards. Stylized owner name on front blank, spine a bit rubbed, last few leaves with a couple of faint foxed spots, near fine. A curious and charming anthology of verse honoring the sea, printed on watermarked paper and published by the Mexican Department of Fisheries (as noted in the introduction as well as *OCLC*; whether it was bound as such at the time of publication, we are unsure). The anthology is especially notable for printing contributions by six Nobel laureates (Vicente Aleixandre, Juan Ramón Jiminéz, Harry Martinson, Gabriela Mistral, Pablo Neruda, and Rabindranath Tagore). Poets from all over Latin America are represented, as well as Walt Whitman (two poems) and Juan (!) Wolfgang Goethe. We aren't exactly sure why this anthology was published, but we're glad it was. *OCLC* locates four copies, two in the U.S. (LOC, Stanford).
