This is a trade version of the original 1962 version of this book, published to commemorate the installation of Marc Chagall's famous stained-glass Jerusalem Windows, at the Abbell Synagogue at the Hadassah-Hebrew University Medical Center. The windows represent the twelve tribes of Israel and are described in detail here with Chagall's artistic intentions made plain by French art critic Jean Leymarie. Readers may also see the progress of each window through b/w illustrations for preparatory sketches, and full color plates and details for the finished models.
