Gr 9 Up--In light of media concepts such as the white-male backlash and the realities of California's Proposition 187, discrimination has reasserted itself as a topic of contention. This timely series title divides a subject into three or four aspects and then reprints pertinent material to fit the point/counterpoint format. The extent to which discrimination is a national problem, its causes, the validity of claims of reverse discrimination, and ways society can fight to end it are addressed by writers, scholars, and media personalities. They argue their points passionately, but the collection offers an evenhanded overview. The questions at the beginning of each article help to focus readers' attention, while listings of magazine articles at the end of each section can lead readers to further information. An additional bibliography of books, a serviceable index, and a list of organizations to contact complete the presentation. A solid choice for students doing research, preparing for debates, or those simply interested in the many aspects of this complex issue.
