Dark Corridor - Softcover

Grade 7-12 Since Kerry Lanson's girlfriend Alicia has described life as a ``dark corridor that leads to a dusty death,'' he assumes that her sudden demise from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning was a suicide. The loss of the brilliant, enigmatic Alicia, who was being groomed to take over her father's multi-million dollar business empire, plunges Kerry into depression. When a trace of drugs is found in Alicia's body, her father accuses Kerry of having murdered her by introducing her to drugsand threatens his life. Kerry is positive that Alicia wasn't a drug user, so he begins to suspect foul play. As he examines his suspicions, the circumstances of Alicia's murder become clear, and he confronts the murderer. The minimalist dialogue, absence of descriptive passages, and staccato style will appeal to reluctant readers. Bennett builds suspense through a well-constructed plot and the masterful employment of light and dark to paint a hellish atmosphere.
